After
many trials and tribulations we have signed a long term lease to a
property in the midst of our community. The lease became effective
on 1st January 2010. Since signing the lease we have had to
demolish the building on the site which were in a very bad state
and unsuitable for a school. It was also necessary to obtain
connections of water and electricity onto the site.
We have now completed the first two stages of the
school construction, four classrooms, and a further room to
accommodate an area for teachers to rest away from the children
and this is also used for administration purposes. The second
stage being completed by the NTP Groep from Holland, and this
group will finance and build the remained of the school ie 4
further classrooms and a climbing structure for the children to
use at playtime.
In
a sense it was a real family project since Joseph, the site
foreman, was educated by CCLK, being one of the first students to
receive a scholarship grant. He worked hard and was keen on the
construction industry. He received his certificate from the Gambia
High School in the last few years. Now he is repaying our faith in
him totally by organising the building of the school in a way that
he can be justifiably proud.
